Scope of Practice

You've decided that you're ready for something to change in your relationship. Whatever brought you here, you have already taken a huge step. Since you're here, I would like to tell you a little bit about what I already believe about you and your partner. I believe that neither of you are not "the problem." You have a problem. Depression. Anxiety. Unhappiness in a relationship. Indidelity. Something has you stuck. Fear. Loneliness. Anger. Something has you feeling like you are drowning. These are all problems. Neither of you are not "the problem." I believe that your relationship is one-of-a-kind with a unique story. Though others may have experienced something similar to what you have, your story is not theirs. Counseling can help you create the story you want for your relationship and free you from the stories that you don't want to live. Look around the website and when you are ready, call me at 206.280.2739 or email hello@randycscott.com to schedule your free, 30 minute initial phone conversation. It's a chance for us to see if we are the right fit for each other before we start working together. Things can get better. You got this.

Values and Philosophy

My entire life has involved stories. As a broadcaster, I spent two decades telling my stories and helping others to tell their stories. It was on the radio that I learned about the power and healing that comes with sharing stories with others. Later as an educator at both the high school and the college level, I became interested in helping others experience feelings of empowerment from telling their stories. Though born in the Midwest, I have called the Pacific Northwest home for many years. I love our mountains, our water, our trees, our city, our values, and our way of life that is uniquely PNW. I am passionate about helping people find the hero that is inside of them. I love helping couples find new ways to nurture their relationship and grow stronger as a team.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

As a couples counselor, I practice what is called 'narrative therapy.' Unlike many traditional couples counseling approaches that often see people as "broken, damaged, or sick and in need of fixing," I believe as narrative therapist Michael White did that "people are not problems... PROBLEMS are problems." Too often people are told that they are their problems, and when you hear it enough, you start to believe it. I believe that couples have problems that keep them from living the preferred story they want to live. It is my job to work with you to figure out what the problem is that is causing you trouble. Together, once we name it, we work together to deconstruct it. Finally, we work together to co-construct a new, more helpful story that you want to live as a couple.

Payment Information and Hours

To schedule a free, no-obligation appointment contact me at 206.280.2739. We will set up a 30 minute phone conversation and talk about the counseling process and how I can help. My fee for couples counseling is $120 per hour. I do offer a limited number of appointments at a sliding scale / reduced fee. I know you're busy, especially if you're looking for couples counseling! I am available early mornings and evenings as well as traditional business hours Monday through Friday. Let me know what works best for you and we'll find a scheduling solution! I do not accept any insurance at this time. This allows me to work with you without having to give you a diagnosis. Typically, insurance companies only pay for things that are “medically necessary.” This means that a counselor has to diagnose you with a "mental health disorder" and show that it is impacting your health on a day-to-day basis. As you know, many of the problems we experience (loss of a loved one, infidelity, career changes, etc.) are not mental health disorders. I will supply you with a receipt in case you have an HSA plan or are trying to obtain reimbursement from your insurance provider, although reimbursement is not guaranteed by Randy C. Scott Counseling & Consulting; talk to your insurance provider if you have questions. back to top
